Title: General Sales Manager
Purpose of Position: To manage JACK-FM CHICAGO Sales Department
and generate revenue through the selling and servicing of
JACK-FM CHICAGO programming/promotions to clients/agencies.
Principals Duties and Responsibilities:
? Hire, assist and develop JACK-FM CHICAGO Sales Staff.
? Work with stations department heads
? Develop and maintain strong business relationships with
clients/agencies.
? Develop customized presentations of the highest quality
for new and existing accounts.
? Develop and grow relationships at multiple levels of the
customer’s organization in order to guarantee effective
contacts internal to the organization and to be aware of problems
and opportunities.
? Accurately forecast revenue on a rolling three-month basis.
? Entertain clients…including weekend and evening work.
? Adhere to station policies regarding pricing, inventory
management, merchandising, commercial content, competitive
product protection, etc.
? Monitor competition and trends in radio.
? Effectively manage expense budget.
? Conduct oneself with the highest degree of integrity and
ethics.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Sales management experience required. Proven ability to generate
concept driven business not tied to ratings/efficiencies.
Must have ability to travel and the willingness to help the
station develop local, regional and national business. Must
be a self-starter and independent worker. College degree preferred.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
? Ability to hire, train develop all levels of sales experience.
? Excellent verbal and written skills a must.
? In-depth knowledge of research, marketing, and competitive
environment necessary.
? Must be able to utilize research approximately and effectively
in presentations.
? Ability to use MS Word, Excel, and Power Point for presentations
preferred.
? Ability to cold call with resulting in-person appointments.
? Must demonstrate a high degree of time management and organizational
skills.
? Must be able to work effectively and efficiently under pressure
and stress.
? Must demonstrate initiative and ability to manage department’s
business with minimal supervision.
Complexity of Work: Highly Complex:
? Requires high degree of flexibility and ability to work
with constantly changing environments.
? Requires advanced negotiation skills.
? Requires sophisticated knowledge of and ability to manage
relationships as they effect clients’ buying decisions.
? Requires highly complex and rapid situation analysis and
response.
? Requires ability to train and develop people.
Significance of Relationships outside the Department:
Interpersonal skills at all levels are critical to the effectiveness
of this position.
? Must be able to interact effectively, efficiently and positive
results with wide variety of personality types and professions
both outside and inside company, including all departments
of the station and other CBS stations as well as with client.
? Diplomacy, integrity, tact, creativity, solution orientation-
- all required.
Decision Making Authority:
? Station policies including pricing, merchandising, promotion,
etc. must be followed. Any
Deviation should be discussed with the respective department
head of the area the issue impacts.
? Short and long range planning in all areas that relate to
all business is sales manager’s
Responsibility.
Accountability for Results: Positions is responsible for
developing with a business plan that includes financial and
non-financial goals for which the individual is 100% accountable.
Actively logs and progress reports must be updated weekly.
Forecasting required weekly on a rolling 3-month basis. Adherence
to all CBS policies required.
